{{Book Review}} Your Beautiful Heart

“Beauty is on the inside.” We know it’s true . . . yet sometimes it seems tough to fully believe it. What would your world be like if you truly felt beautiful and lived every day full of that confidence and joy?

Fashion journalist Lauren Scruggs knows how it feels to search for beauty. She grew up knowing of God’s love, but never fully understood what that love meant, or how it extended to the deepest parts of her soul—until a horrible accident that resulted in the loss of both her left eye and hand. In her darkest hours, everything Lauren believed was tested. Yet it was there that God showed her where real beauty comes from: the unfailing love of the Creator. God’s love is what truly makes us lovely.

Using stories from Lauren’s accident, recovery, and experiences in the fashion world, Your Beautiful Heart explores issues that teen girls face every day: body image, self-worth, peer pressure, and much more. Whether you read the book on your own or with a group of friends, Lauren’s personal message of love, faith, and value will show you what it means to be a girl who radiates with true beauty.

Along with the short devotional reading and Bible story, each snuggle time moment features a game or activity to help kids remember the lesson and tuck it away in their heart. This book will get you and your child talking together, laughing together, and hugging together! It’s a great way to strengthen your parent-child relationship while introducing young children to the joys of spending time with God. It’s also an effective resource for helping to shape behavior and for teaching kids biblically based life principles.

*My Review*
I absolutely LOVE this little book by Stephen Elkins. My 3 yr old loves the "hug" at the end of each devotion. I love that it's small enough for her tiny little hands, and these devotions are easy to read and easy to get a child interested. This book has quickly become part of our bedtime routine.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has little ones, or is looking for a gift for a little one.

{{Book Review}} Unplanned by Abby Johnson

Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leader's Eye-Opening Journey across the Life Line

Retailers Choice Award winner, 2012
Abby Johnson quit her job in October 2009. That simple act became a national news story because Abby was the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas who, after participating in an actual abortion procedure for the first time, walked down the street to join the Coalition for Life. Unplanned is a heart-stopping personal drama of life-and-death encounters, a courtroom battle, and spiritual transformation that speaks hope and compassion into the political controversy that surrounds this issue. Telling Abby’s story from both sides of the abortion clinic property line, this book is a must-read for anyone who cares about the life versus rights debate and helping women who face crisis pregnancies.

*My Review*
I rarely read non-fiction books like this, but I am so glad that I did! All I can say is that anyone who cares about life NEEDS to read this book. If you consider yourself pro-choice, I urge you to read this book. If you have ever been hurt by past abortions or if you are considering abortion as an option I urge you to read this book!! I cannot say this enough....EVERYONE should read this book!!!

Abby Johnson is a modern-day hero. That is reason alone to read this story of person who was willing to walk away from her eight-year career, because it was  "the right thing to do," now knowing where her heart and God were leading her, makes the book worth the read.

{{Book Review}} 365 Pocket Prayers for Mothers

Express your concerns, frustrations, and heartaches to God with 365 Pocket Prayers for Mothers
Daily life brings worries—challenges with your children, tasks undone, health problems, financial difficulties, and other things that keep you from enjoying your children and your life. Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to pray for or even how to talk with God about these life issues. Following in the footsteps of the popular 365 Pocket Prayers series, which has touched so many lives, here is an edition especially for moms and their special life needs. Each reading in this convenient, easy-to-carry, quick-access guide begins with a daily prayer and ends with a promise from Scripture.

*My Review*
I absolutely LOVE this little book! I had forgotten I had been picked to review it. We went to Houston for my oldest daughter's bday and just got home on Sunday. When we checked the mail...this was waiting for me. Once we were settled in the house and unpacked I started reading through it. I really like  the lavender color and the soft leather bound cover.

I love that it is numbered by day( day 1, day 2, day 3 etc) that way you can read it that way, or you can read by topic. It has topics such as;stress, healthy, jealousy, discipline and several more.

The 365 Pocket Prayers for mothers is small enough to fit in a handbag(or diaper bag) & carry it with you. It will be put in my purse when it's not by my bedside table that way I can always have it with me, even when we leave the house! It would be a perfect gift for Mother's day, or a Bday(or anytime raelly).

If you haven't read this book, I encourage you to give it a look! I think you will be pleased.

{{Book Review}} Tell Me About Prayer

Train ’Em Up is an interactive, fun-filled, and affordable series that uses a train locomotive theme for teaching kids core Christian beliefs and principles. In Tell Me about Prayer, a friendly train conductor, Mr. Steve, teaches kids what prayer is all about, how we should talk to God, and why our conversations are so important to Him. Through bold graphics and interactive songs and stories, Train ’Em Up makes it easy for parents and teachers to explain biblical concepts like prayer in a way that helps with attention, memorization, and recall while building a solid faith foundation. Each book in the series includes a CD with sing-along songs and narrated stories with sound effects, plus a colorful sticker sheet!

*My Review*

This is the only book of the series I've read so far, but I'm definitely interested in reading the rest of the books in the series with my two small children now. At just $4.99, these softcover books are an excellent value. The length of this book is great length and it also include stickers and a CD of childrens Bible songs that go with the theme.

I got this book for my 3 & 4 year olds and tjhey loved it. They both enjoyed decorating the pages with the included sticker sheet and they were both super excited about the CD full of songs. This CD is a full length cd with 14 songs which include: Get on Board, Little Children; The Lord's Prayer; Train Up a Child; Father, We Thank Thee; Whisper a Prayer; Standing in the Need of Prayer; Ask, Seek, and Knock; O Give Thanks; Come to Me; Pray in the Spirit; We Should Pray; Never Give Up; If My People Pray; and Ask Anything.

(Sticker sheet)

(CD)

My girls thoroughly enjoyed me reading this book to them at bedtime and looking at the beautiful pictures. They also had my ten year old read this book to them.

This book perfectly explains the concept and purpose of prayer, as well as how to pray, in terms any child can understand and process. There are Bible verses included within the book.

The end of the book has questions to ask your child to see if they remember and understand the concepts and there is a prayer that you can pray with your child(ren) at the end.

(Questions at the end of the book)

I highly recommend this book to any Christian parent looking to share basic truths of the faith with their young children. This book would best suit children ages 3-6.
